- IMF Prefers Crypto Regulation Not Prohibition
Alongside the G20 Finance Ministers' Meeting, the IMF Managing Director Mentions Crypto Assets. He said he would prefer to regulate crypto rather than ban it.
“First and foremost, it is necessary to distinguish between state-backed central bank digital currencies and publicly issued cryptocurrencies and slave coins.
In his view, citing a recent paper, cryptoassets cannot become legal tender because they are not backed. However, he warned that if cryptocurrencies pose significant risks to financial stability, the option to ban cryptocurrencies should not be left out of regulation. (original article)
